Two Monk and Lady !

Welcome to 42nd Monday Musings:

Once upon a time a big monk and a little monk were traveling together.

They came to the bank of a river and found the bridge was damaged. They had to wade across the river.

There was a pretty lady who was stuck at the damaged bridge and couldn’t cross the river.

The big monk offered to carry her across the river on his back to which the lady accepted.

The little monk was shocked by the move of the big monk and was thinking

How can big brother carry a lady when we are supposed to avoid all intimacy with females But he kept quiet.

The big monk carried the lady across the river and the small monk followed unhappily. When they crossed the river, the big monk let the lady down and they parted ways with her.

All along the way for several miles, the little monk was very unhappy with the act of the big monk. He was making up all kinds of accusations about big monk in his head. This got him madder and madder. But he still kept quiet. And the big monk had no inclination to explain his situation.

Finally, at a rest point many hours later, the little monk could not stand it any further, he burst out angrily at the big monk. “How can you claim yourself a devout monk, when you seize the first opportunity to touch a female, especially when she is very pretty?”

All your teachings to me make you a big hypocrite.

The big monk looked surprised and said, I had put down the pretty lady at the river bank many hours ago, how come you are still carrying her along

Moral of the story :

This very old Chinese Zen story reflects the thinking of many people today. We encounter many unpleasant things in our life, they irritate us and they make us angry.

But like the little monk, we are not willing to let them go away.  There is no point in remaining hurt by the unpleasant event after it is over. Learn to move on in life!

Make it a great Week !

Face Your Fears !

Welcome to 41st Monday Musings:

An old story tells of a woman who dreams every night that she is being chased, throughout a big haunted house,  By a hulking Monster.

Face your fears and doubts.jpg

Night after night, the hideous thing runs after her, its breath like acid on the back of her neck...

It all seems so real...

Finally one night, the dream begins again, but this time the beast corners the poor terrified woman, and just as it's about to tear her apart,

the woman finds her voice and shrieks: "What are you! Why are you chasing me! What will you do to me!"

At that, the monster stops, straightens up, and with a puzzled expression, puts its hands on its hips and says, "How should I know? It's your dream."

Moral of the story :

Always face your fear and doubts, we always keep running from fears that we may face something unwanted outcome, and being scared of same we don’t face our fears, and we miss fortune lying behind it

It is necessary to face our fear; in fact, "the essence of cowardice is not acknowledging the reality of fear

So easy to say, So difficult to do, but until you face your fears, you’re always looking back. You’re a diminished version of yourself.

Don’t be afraid, conquer the fear within, because  beyond fear lies victory.

Make it a great Week !

Important of Appreciation !

Welcome to 40th Monday Musings:

One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company.

He passed the first interview; the director did the last interview, made the last decision.

The director discovered from the CV that the youth's academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score.

The director asked, "Did you obtain any scholarships in school?"

the youth answered "none".

The director asked, "Was it your father who paid for your school fees?"

The youth answered, "My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school fees.

The director asked, "Where did your mother work?"

The youth answered, "My mother worked as clothes cleaner. The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.

The director asked, "Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?"

The youth answered, "Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me.

The director said, "I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mother's hands, and then see me tomorrow morning

The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange, happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid.

The youth cleaned his mother's hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mother's hands were so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.

This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother's hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future.

After finishing the cleaning of his mother hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother.

That night, mother and son talked for a very long time.

Next morning, the youth went to the director's office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youth's eyes, asked: "Can you tell me what have you done and learned yesterday in your house?"

The youth answered, "I cleaned my mother's hand, and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes'

The Director asked, "Please explain me your feelings."

The youth said,

Number 1, I know now what appreciation is. Without my mother, there would not the successful me today.
Number 2, by working together and helping my mother, only I now realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done.
Number 3, I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family relationship.

The director said, "This is what I am looking for to be my manager. I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of others to get things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired.

Later on, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect of his subordinates. Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The company's performance improved tremendously.

Moral of the story :

Appreciate everything your associates do for the business. Nothing else can quite substitute for a few well-chosen, well-timed, sincere words of praise. They're absolutely free and worth a fortune. Appreciated people achieve the best; dominated people achieve second best; neglected people achieve the least.

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them ~~ John F. Kennedy.

Appreciate everything in life, appreciate yourself, your job and everything you see, The best way to appreciate your job is to imagine yourself without one. Well-chosen, well-timed, sincere words of praise. They're absolutely free and worth a fortune and Everyone appreciates being appreciated!

Make it a great Week !

Fall seven times, stand up eight !

Welcome to 39th Monday Musings:

As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg.

No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. "Well, "trainer said,

When elephant is still a baby, the elephant is tethered by a very thick rope or chain to a stake firmly hammered into the ground.

The elephant tries several times to get free, but it lacks the strength to do so.

After a year, the stake and the rope are still strong enough to keep a small elephant tethered, although it continues to try, unsuccessfully, to get free.

At this point, the animal realizes that the rope will always be too strong and so it gives up.

When it reaches adulthood, the elephant can still remember how, for a long time , it had wasted its energies trying to escape captivity. At this stage, the trainer can tether the elephant with a slender thread tied to a broom handle, and the elephant will make no attempt to escape to freedom.

it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away.  They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn'tthey were stuck right where they were

Moral of the story :

Like the elephants, many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we can’t do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.

A limit on what you will do, puts a limit on what you can do. Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. Never ever Give up.

Make it a great Week !
